One Step at a Time

Most people probably don't know this, but I used to have a blog called "One Step at a Time". It was a personal blog documenting my journeys around life and a place I could dump my mind for whoever wanted to read it-- Like you!

Anyways, I've been sick for about a month. Not super sick, like the flu or pneumonia or anything... just a simple cold with a cough that sounded like death. Even with this cough, I found that I still wanted to be out and doing what brings me joy.. Mostly... I had made plans and I'm way too stubborn to cancel them because I'm coughing. So here's a little summary of what went on in March!

Milind and I went to Salt Lake City to visit some of my family. The drive down included taking the wrong exit, going on a mini adventure, star gazing, and singing road trip songs LOUDLY! I had a wonderful time with family, took some photos at the aviary, and I brought a pie which we ate out in the grass, and my cousins made wonderfully, deliciously, amazing food! Then on the way home we stopped by an caught the sunset at Shoshone Falls and found myself lost in thought and these quotes came to mind: "We must take adventures in order to know where we truly belong" as well as

"When you feel a peaceful joy, that's when you are near truth." Rumi

The next weekend in March, I found myself in Spokane doing one of the things that brings me the most joy. Dancing! I attended Inland Empire Shuffle and had the opportunity to make new friends, reconnect with old friends, and work toward mending friendships. I also had the opportunity to do something I almost talked myself out of doing. Competing in the Collegiate Shag competition.

I had an advantage since the best dancers of the workshop didn't compete for one reason or another, so I found myself placing first as a follow! It took a second for me to realize that they were calling my number for the prizes as I just couldn't imagine myself even placing! Now I have to practice so much more so that I can hold my own against my friends when they do compete.

(And I hope there's not too much photo evidence of the faces I made during that weekend...I really have to work at keeping my expressions in check...)

Then of course when I got back it was straight into more dancing with amazing people at Swing is the Thing here at home. I taught a short lesson with the ever so talented Farooq, then danced the night away.

Swing is the Thing

The final weekend of March I ended up in Seattle on a lovely weekend with Milind. We took our time driving over and had a great time exploring the city and spending time along the water. We went whale watching and spend some time in a small town by the water. It was so nice to get out take photos, or just sit and get lost in thought. I seem to be doing that a lot these days anyway :)

Then last night I had the wonderful privilege of having so many wonderful dancers and people come out to the local Saloon to listen to the Frim Fram Four (a great jazz group in town that plays every week!). We danced had a wonderful time and enjoyed an evening together doing what we love!

Take time to do what makes your soul happy.

I'm busy as always, but now I'm feeling like I'm the right kind of busy.
